CHAPTER 29 - Finishing the Mission

When Ying Yi mentioned this, Wu Lianyi understood that he was worried that someone might take advantage and sneak in. Sun Yi's perception ability could detect those, so she left the cleaning of the base to Earth Eagle and went to the cellar to find Sun Yi.

It was said to be a cellar, but it was actually just a hole dug out of the ground. The location was quite hidden, with one hole inside another, and there are many people locked up inside.

When Wu Lianyi went over, she saw her teammates retreating from the innermost area. Their expressions were obviously very bad, especially Sun Yi, who was being supported by her teammate.

"Sun Yi, what's wrong?"

"They are not humans, they are vile beasts!"

Sun Yi just said this with a pale face.

The teammate who was supporting her gritted his teeth and said:

"The innermost cave is a slaughterhouse."

"I understand, please help Eye Eagle go out to rest."

Wu Lianyi waved her hand and secretly sighed. This is why they chose to silence them all in this operation.

Afterwards, the imprisoned people crawled out of the hole one after another. They all seemed to be unaccustomed to the illumination of the flashlights. Their bodies have shrunk, their faces were pale, and their eyes were filled with fear and uneasiness. The women were in even worse condition. Not a single part of their bodies was unscathed.

Among these people, there was a gentle and handsome man. The first thing he asked when he crawled out was:

"Have you seen my wife and daughter?"

When he asked, he clenched his hands into fists, clearly restraining himself.

Wu Lianyi also noticed this man. He was 1.8 meters tall, wearing a white shirt and black trousers. He had a pair of silver-rimmed glasses on his elegant and handsome face, giving him the impression of a senior white-collar worker.

"All the people we rescued are here. See if your wife and daughter are among them."

A special operations team member replied calmly, but the gun hanging on his chest remained pointed at the other party.

The man did not say anything else, just stared at the people climbing out of the hole one after another, and the light in his eyes gradually faded.

"No! Are there any others?"

The man asked, not willing to give up.

"We also killed a group of zombies they kept in captivity. You can go and identify them."

This time it was Wu Lianyi who spoke.

"No, it shouldn't be, they promised me"

The man said subconsciously.

"What did they promise you?"

"They promised me that as long as I do what they tell me, they would not harm my wife and daughter."

The man seemed to be in a shock that his words were barely audible.

"When was the last time you saw them?"

Wu Lianyi continued to ask.

"Ten days ago! I was counting the days. These two days are the time for me to meet my wife and daughter, but they said there was a big mission and I must participate. They promised that after completing the mission, they would reunite me with my wife and daughter for three days. ”

The man immediately said loudly.

"They are using your wife and daughter as hostages to control you. You must have something special. Can you tell us about it?"

Wu Lianyi asked in a friendly tone.

"I can control zombies."

The man hesitated for a moment, and then said truthfully.

"I see!"

Everyone suddenly realized what was going on. After all, among the all the captives, this man was the only one who had no injuries on his body except for his poor condition.

"Please be mentally prepared, your wife and daughter are probably dead."

Wu Lianyi said with regret, and then took the man to the place where the battlefield was being cleaned up.

As soon as they arrived, the man rushed towards a naked female zombie, held her wrist, and began to cry silently.

"Are you sure this is your wife?"

"There's a heart-shaped birthmark on her wrist. I won't make a mistake."

The man's eyes were red and his voice was choked.

"Please accept my condolences."

Then, Wu Lianyi gave some space to the man who exuded a sad aura.

"There were a lot of bones found in the innermost cave, mostly of children and women. I'm afraid this person's child was out of luck."

Earth Eagle came over, stood beside Wu Lianyi and Ying Yi, and whispered.

He was responsible for burying the bones in the cave. The things found in the warehouse were collected by the space ability-user and by Wu Lianyi.

Wu Lianyi looked at the heartbroken man, her eyes flashed, and she whispered:

"It's a pity that for the sake of his wife and daughter, he did things to help the evil. Otherwise, it would've been good to stay in our team."

Several people noticed that the trembling shoulders of the man who was crying sadly not far away, paused for a moment, and then he continued to cry silently.

Ying Yi turned his head and looked at Wu Lianyi, who shrugged her shoulders and then made a gesture of swiping her neck when she turned around.

After cleaning up the base, the more than 50 survivors who were rescued gobbled down the compressed dry food in their hands. After choking, they took a sip of the water in the cup.

Sun Yi who has now recovered, walked to the front and spoke loudly:

"We are a zombie-hunting team out on a mission in W City. Our next stop is L City. We can send you to the survivor base there. You can go there to register and collect some personal supplies."

The numb survivors were stunned for a moment before they responded:

"Thank you!"

"Thank you, lady!"

"We finally have a way to survive."

Only the man lowered his head, holding the biscuits and paper cup in his hand, and did not respond immediately.

After the survivors were settled in the house to rest, the man walked over to Ying Yi and Wu Lianyi, bowed respectfully to them, and then spoke with reddened eyes:

"Thank you for killing those beasts, avenging my wife and daughter, and allowing them to be buried with dignity."

"You're welcome. It's just a matter of convenience. Who allowed these scum to set their sights on us? They wanted to devour us, they're not afraid of breaking their teeth!"

Wu Lianyi replied nonchalantly.

"Your smooth operation is a life-saving grace for us survivors."

After a pause, the man seemed to have mustered up his courage, and then continued:

"Can I join you? My special ability is very useful and I can definitely help you! It's also because of this special ability that I can survive until now. However, for the sake of my wife and daughter, I was controlled by these maniacs and did many things against my will, so I want to atone for my sins."

Ying Yi and Wu Lianyi looked at each other, and then Ying Yi asked:

"How many zombies can you control at a time?"

"A thousand of Level 0, a hundred of Level 1."

The man said without hesitation.

"Your special ability is indeed rare and will be very helpful for us to complete the zombie-hunting mission. Are you sure you want to join us? If you return to the survival base in L City, there should be many teams willing to accept you."

"But you are my saviors, and you are the ones who avenged my wife and daughter. I only obey you."

The man's attitude was very firm.

"All right, come with us tomorrow."

Ying Yi nodded with great satisfaction.

"Thank you for giving me this opportunity."

The man raised his hand to adjust his glasses, his expression looking much more relaxed.

The next second, his expression changed. A bullet was blocked in front of him by his ability, while Ying Yi's water arrow, Wu Lianyi's lightning ball and Earth Eagle's earth spike also hit him at the same time.
