CHAPTER 16 - Taking the Initiative

In the back of the military truck, a young soldier under Ying Yi was fiddling with a machine to check the distribution of zombies, and reported in a low voice:

"Captain, we have spotted a group of zombies with the drones, but there is no large-scale movement."

"Keep monitoring at all times and notify us immediately if there is any large-scale movement of zombies. We'll start from the outskirts of the city and eliminate the small-scale zombie groups first."

Ying Yi immediately ordered.

W City is vast and sparsely populated, but even so, it still has a population of 1.5 million permanent residents. Currently, one-fifth of the population have been evacuated, and two-fifths are still trapped at home. The rest have become zombies, and the probability of an ability-user appearing among them is one in a thousand.

The young soldier immediately reported.

Two hours later, they successfully entered the suburbs. Because of the appearance of the vehicles and the fresh flesh and blood of the soldiers in the vehicles, they immediately attracted zombies wandering aimlessly, and they began to approach the convoy.

Ying Yi directly ordered, and the people in the other vehicles also received the same order.

Wu Lianyi glanced at the young soldiers in the truck. Their weapons were all equipped with silencers. It was obvious they didn't want to attract all the zombies in the city because of the loud noise. The operations commander is still very reliable.

"Where is the mission target now?"

"The mission target is fighting another level 1 zombie and chasing it in the city."

The communicator responded very promptly this time.

"Is she winning or losing?"

It would be better to be killed directly by another zombie, which would save her effort.

"The mission target has the upper hand. If she defeats the opponent, she can obtain the crystal core of the level 1 zombie and advance to level 2. It will be very detrimental to the task master!"

"Why didn't you say so earlier! She can advance with just one crystal core of the same kind. Does she have the protagonist's aura?"

This time the communicator changed to a young man's voice, which Wu Lianyi found much more pleasing to the ear.

During the communication between the two parties, the convoy had already encountered the small zombie wave of 10,000 people.

The sound of gunfire rang out again, and along with the precise throwing of small bombs, the suburban roads became lively for a while.

"Captain, the surrounding zombies are slowly moving closer to this side because of the noise here."

The young soldier in charge of detection immediately reported.

"How long before we get besieged?"

"Half an hour at most."

"Evacuate in twenty minutes!"

Ying yi notified all vehicles through the radio.

Among the ability-users, the first ones to take action were those with long-range attacks. The golden needles condensed by the gold-type ability-user pierced the zombies' foreheads.

Another, a wood-type ability-user held some seeds and scattered them casually. The seeds stuck to the zombies then began to take root and sprout quickly, killing five zombies in an instant. He then retreated from the attack position and began to recover his ability. This is the disadvantage of low ability levels.

The earth-type ability-user directly condensed earth spikes and attacked the zombies, nailing their feet to the ground, making them unable to move. The zombies following behind trampled on them and turned them into paste.

The fire-type ability-user threw fireballs directly at places where zombies are most concentrated. After humans turned into zombies, all the water in their bodies evaporates making them highly flammable. A single fireball can eliminate hundreds of zombies before being extinguished.

Wu Lianyi still cooperated with Sun Wang. Before they set off, the two had already communicated about the combat method.

"Sun Wang, let's go!"

"Okay! Sister Lianyi, where should we go first?"

Sun Wang was also a little excited at this time. Everyone had shown their abilities, how could they be left behind!

"Go to the intersection in the northwest corner. There are zombies coming over there. Let's stop them."

Wu Lianyi determined the location of the first stop after communicating with the young soldier monitoring the overall situation.

"Got it!"

Sun Wang held Wu Lianyi's hand and disappeared from the truck in an instant, which made those who were recovering their abilities envious for a while.

The moment the two figures reappeared, Wu Lianyi swung out the sword imbued with lightning power. A purple light flashed and a large number of zombies fell down, just like cutting leeks. Soon, the area within at least 10 meters of the two people became a vacuum.

Sun Wang knew his own situation so after appearing, he leaned against Wu Lianyi, raised his gun and started shooting indiscriminately.

Ten minutes later, the two cleared an open space. Suddenly a black shadow flashed, and a claw scratched at Wu Lianyi's face.

"Tsk, I was just about to find you, and you delivered yourself to my door."

It turned out to be the mission target. At this time, she was a female zombie wearing a fashionable black short leather skirt and black tank top. There was an obvious bite mark on her shoulder, which showed the reason for her mutation.

Wu Lianyi promptly raised her sword and stabbed her, but the other party dodged sideways. Her movements were faster than those of ordinary zombies, and even faster than ordinary humans.

"She has advanced."

"Yes."

After Wu Lianyi received the reply from the communicator, she condensed a lightning ball the size of an egg and held it in her hand. Then she said to Sun Wang who had stopped shooting:

"Take me to the roof of that seven-story building."

"Got it!"

Sun Wang's expression was serious. He noticed that the zombie was too special, so he took Wu Lianyi's hand and left the original place in an instant.

The female zombie felt that the smell that attracted her disappeared, so she roared angrily, and then the remaining zombies started to riot. Ying Yi, who saw everything, frowned and picked up the radio:

"Attention all convoys, the zombies in the suburbs have begun to riot. It is suspected that there are high-level zombies controlling them. Everyone should avoid the Tuanjie intersection for the time being! Snipers, quickly find the high-level zombies and kill them!"

At the same time as the two orders were issued, Wu Lianyi and Sun Wang also appeared on the roof.
